The Narn are an unfortunate race, having suffered many disasters in their long history. The first happened millennia ago, during the first Shadow war. The Shadows destroyed the Narn telepaths, wiping out their genetic code with virus bombs. These bombs killed all who had this code, meaning that with them, the chance of any future telepaths for the Narn has been destroyed. This event has led to many Narn resorting to trying to buy DNA from other races telepaths, however, at the moment it seems that none have been successful. The fact that the Narn fought in the first Shadow war proves them to be an old race, but in fact, at that point in their history, the Narn had not yet achieved spaceflight, and only allowed the Shadows to create a base on their homeworld. The events of this time are only recorded in the book of G'Quan, they are not generally spoken about by those in the order, and it is not sure if those outside the order of G'Quan know of this time.
The second disaster is in the form of the Centauri. The Centauri seem to be a very warlike race , as is shown by their treatment of the Xon. Indeed, parallels can be drawn with the Xon and Narn, as the Centauri attacked both almost as soon as the two races met. However, the Centauri did not attack the Humans, so the hypothesis of them being warmongers may be inaccurate, unless they saw a chance to get certain advantages by befriending Earth. The Centauri managed to defeat the Narn in this first war, occupying the homeworld, and according to the Narn and some exceptional Centauri, they committed horrible atrocities during the occupation. After the Centauri pulled out, the Narn swore revenge, however, they have not succeeded in doing this so far, as the Narn are probably the least advanced of any race, yet they do their best to dispel this idea. In fact, the Narn never succeeded in discovering spaceflight for themselves. They discovered a spacecraft crashed on the southern continent, and advanced from there. Many of their weapons and defensive systems have been bought or taken from other races. Also, they seem not to even have developed rotational gravity, as all of their ships have no gravity aboard, which means that they cannot spend very long on missions, as this would lead to injury among the crew.
Since then the Narn have been invaded once more, this time the Centauri decimated their world. The Narn are now attempting to rebuild their political and economic structure. Although they still harbor a deep dislike of the Centauri, and will take any chance to strike at them.
