The Centauri are a slightly strange race, prone to excesses, such as drinking. They seem to enjoy feast and other events which they class as "fun". However, they are capable of incredible aggression if pushed. They have many gods, one for each aspect of life. Purple seems to be a highly prized colour, and only the rich seem to be able to wear it. All of these factors are similar to the Roman Empire, indeed, they seem to be almost exact replicas. The Centauri was once huge, but has been steadily shrinking, and now consists of 12 star systems. This is by no means a small area, but in relation to the old republic, it is tiny. In relation to other races, the republic is the largest, maybe even larger than the Minbari Federation, which it can be compared to. The Centauri seem to be an old race, having achieved spaceflight almost a millennia earlier, this is almost as old as the Minbari. However, in comparison with the Minbari, the Centauri ships are not as advanced, but are still capable of holding their own in groups against Sharlin class cruisers. The early history of the Centauri states that there was once another sentient race on Centauri Prime, the Xon. However, according to the Centauri, once contact was made, a war started, that ending with the extinction of the Xon. This helps to give you an idea of the Centauri philosophy, although they seem to live for fun, they can be viscous when they want, and are highly determined. Later, the Centauri attacked the Narn for the first time, managing to take the Narn homeworld. Soon after this, the Centauri made contact with humans. The Centauri provided limited information on the Minbari before the Earth-Minbari war, but remained neutral during the war itself. Later on, as Babylon 5 was going online, the Centauri attacked the Narn for a second time, again taking the homeworld, but this time employing mass drivers, causing incredible destruction to Narn. When they withdrew, Narn was almost decimated, and the Narn vowed revenge. In the second Narn-Centauri war, the Centauri were aided by the Shadows, Londo Mollari conversing with them through Mr. Morden (an interesting point here, when Mollari first met with Morden, he asked him first "What do you want?, at which Morden look slightly smugger, if possible. At the end of the meeting, Londo asked "Who are you?", at which Morden winced, an interesting insight). Later, when the Shadow war was heating up, Emperor Cartagia allowed the Shadows to set up a base on Centauri Prime. At this point Londo Mollari and a group of high ranking official thought it was time to remove the Emperor. It ended with Mollari's aide, Vir, actually doing the deed. After this, Londo decided to get rid of the Shadow influence, partly because he had heard that the Vorlons were destroying all that had been touched by the Shadows. To do this, Mollari had to destroy the island which the Shadows were on, he then killed Morden and sent a message to the Vorlons saying all Shadow influence had been removed. When the Vorlon fleet arrived, Londo realized that he had been influenced by the Shadows, and as such he would be the reason that Centauri Prime would be destroyed. However, as he asked Vir to kill him, the Vorlons left. Later on, a race of Shadow allies, the Drakh, took control of the regent, and then Mollari. They used them to wage a secret war against the interstellar alliance.
